miles south of San Francisco, 10 miles northwest of San Jose, and 360 north of
Los Angeles. It is situated on the San Francisco peninsula in the Santa Clara
County. Sunnyvale was incorporated on December 24, 1912 and is 23.8 square miles
with 270 street miles within the city limits.

Public Safety: Sunnyvale has a Public Safety Department with fully integrated police and fire functions using cross-trained officers. There are 285 staff members in the department, of which 2217 are sworn officers. Fire Equipment: Six modern stations have 12 first line fire apparatus, including one 75-foot telesquirt, a 102 foot elevating platform and one chemical, light , air and rescue apparatus (CLARA). The City has one the lowest crime rates in the nation for cities with population over 100,000 and was recognized by “Money Magazine” in 1996 as the 5th safest city in America.

Industrial Sites: Nearly 3690 acres are zoned for all types if industry, except heavy. although 90 percent is developed, there are significant parcels, some under single ownership, with great potential value for private redevelopment. Major retail is allowed in industrial areas. Current leases are running between $.50 and $.65 per square foot for industrial warehousing, $.55 to$2.35 for R&D, and from $2.25 to $2.65 for full service office space. The terrain is approximately 1% slope. Drainage is excellent. Subsoil is firm bearing and piling is not required. Sizes of water mains range from 6 to 33 inches. Sizes of sewer lines range from 8 to 39 inches. Sites are available on or off rail lines zoned for industry. All utilities adjoined these sites and can be easily extended to them.
